Verb there to be

A expressão formada por there + verbo to be corresponde aos verbos haver ou ter (no sentido de existir) em português.

Em inglês o verbo there to be varia em número (singular e plural), tempo (presente, passado e futuro) e em formas (afirmativa, negativa e interrogativa). 

• No presente, o verbo there to be divide-se em there is e there are, na forma afirmativa:

There is a boy playing soccer. (Há um garoto jogando futebol.)

There are boys playing soccer. (Há garotos jogando futebol.)

• Para criarmos frases negativas com o there to be no presente, basta trocar o is por isn't e o are por aren't:

There isn't a boy playing soccer. 

(Não há um garoto jogando futebol.)

There aren't boys playing soccer. 

(Não há garotos jogando futebol.)

• Se quisermos fazer perguntas com esse verbo, basta inverter a ordem da expressão:

Is There a boy playing soccer. (Há um garoto jogando futebol?)

Are There boys playing soccer. (Há garotos jogando futebol?)

Para fazermos frases no passado, trocamos o is por was e o are por were. Seguindo a mesma formação.
